Short answer: A yacht’s licensed capacity is a safety maximum, not a comfort guide. For a standing cocktail, plan about 70 to 80% of the licence; for a seated dinner, about half of it or less. Tell us the format first: a seated dinner for 20 and a cocktail for 20 need different yachts.

Licence capacity is a maximum, not a target

Every yacht in Dubai has a licensed capacity: the maximum number of guests allowed on board. It is a safety limit, not a comfort guide. A yacht licensed for 25 feels relaxed with 15 to 20 guests standing, and full at 25. Before comparing prices, compare the layout with the format of your event.

The format changes everything

FormatComfortable guest countWhat matters in the layout
Cruise, swim and sunsetUp to about 80% of the licenceSun deck, shade, sea access for swimming
Standing cocktailAbout 70 to 80% of the licenceOpen aft deck, flow between decks, space for the bar and the waiters
BBQ on boardAbout 70% of the licenceSpace for the grill, a buffet table and somewhere to sit and eat
Seated dinnerOften half of the licence or lessOne table or a saloon large enough to seat everyone together
Party with a DJClose to the licence on large yachtsA dance area, a DJ spot with power, sound that carries outside

These ratios are our rule of thumb from the events we run, not a regulation. Waiters, a DJ, a photographer or a bartender also take deck space, so plan for them.

Real examples from our events

  • Seated dinner for 20 on the 40-metre superyacht Encore: the main deck saloon was turned into one dining room for 20 guests.
  • VIP afternoon for 40 on the same Encore, standing, with a raw bar and a DJ on deck: a different format, twice the guests.
  • Party for 40 from Dubai Harbour with canapés, a bar and a DJ, on a yacht chosen for its open decks.
  • Members’ evening for 90 on a private houseboat on the Dubai Canal: one large open deck works better than several small ones for a crowd.

Quick sizing guide

Your groupLook at
Up to 12 guestsA sport yacht or a 60 to 70 ft yacht such as the Morrigan or the Ferretti 670
15 to 25 guestsThe Signature 62 or Signature 63 for a cruise or a BBQ; a larger yacht for a seated dinner
25 to 50 guestsA 75 to 100 ft yacht such as Astra or Caliente; see the best yacht for 40 guests
50 to 150 guestsA superyacht or a large event yacht such as Miss C or Onda

Tell us the format first

When you send a brief, tell us the format before the guest count: “a seated dinner for 20” and “a cocktail for 20” lead to different yachts. We will tell you honestly when a yacht is too small, and show you the deck plan before you book.

Quick answers

How many people fit on a yacht in Dubai?

It depends on the yacht’s licence and on the format. As a rule of thumb, a standing cocktail is comfortable at about 70 to 80% of the licensed capacity and a seated dinner at about half of it or less.

Does the crew count in the guest capacity?

The licensed capacity refers to guests; the yacht’s own crew is separate. Event staff such as waiters, a DJ or a photographer still take deck space, so we plan for them when choosing the yacht.

What yacht do I need for a seated dinner for 20?

A yacht with one saloon or deck large enough for a single table of 20. We hosted a 20-guest seated dinner in the main deck saloon of the 40-metre superyacht Encore.

Can 25 guests board a yacht licensed for 25?

Yes, it is the legal maximum, but it will feel full. For comfort we recommend a yacht licensed for 30 or more for a group of 25.
